The decarbonisation of industrial heat requires scalable, efficient, and economically viable solutions. Among these, High-Temperature Heat Pumps (HTHPs) are increasingly recognised as a key enabling technology for the transition towards low-carbon industry.

This webinar, organised by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) in the framework of the Push2Heat project, is part of the Heat BIG series – implementing industrial and district heat pump solutions. It will explore how HTHPs are moving from technological innovation to real industrial deployment.

Focus of the webinar

While interest in low-carbon heat and steam solutions is rapidly increasing, a gap remains between market potential and realised projects. This session will address this challenge by focusing on:

  • Market uptake and product-market fit for HTHPs
  • Industrial deployment opportunities and barriers
  • Real-world performance from ongoing demonstration projects
  • Techno-economic and environmental assessments

A particular emphasis will be placed on the pulp and paper sector, where several EU-funded initiatives are currently demonstrating the integration of HTHPs in industrial environments.

Real-world applications and case studies

The webinar will showcase concrete industrial applications, including:

  • Heat pump integration combined with mechanical vapour recompression for waste heat recovery and steam production in the pulp and paper industry
  • Absorption heat transformer applications enabling waste heat upgrading for industrial steam generation, based on demonstration activities in operating paper mills in Italy
  • Insights from ongoing EU-funded demonstration sites, highlighting performance under real operating conditions

These case studies will provide valuable evidence of the technical, economic, and environmental potential of HTHPs in industrial settings.

Programme highlights

The session will include contributions from leading experts and institutions, including:

  • European Heat Pump Association (EHPA)
  • University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (OST)
  • Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)
  • Tecnalia

Key contributions include:

  • Market analysis and matchmaking tools supporting HTHP deployment
  • Techno-economic and environmental assessments in industrial applications
  • Lessons learned from real-life demonstration projects

About the webinar

This event offers a unique opportunity to better understand how High-Temperature Heat Pumps can support industrial decarbonisation and accelerate the transition towards efficient, low-carbon heat supply systems.
